[ARCHIVED] Tax Notice Delay Due to Legislative Changes

Facebook

Park County, CO -  The Treasurer and Public Trustee announces a delay in the availability of Tax Notices for the upcoming tax year, 2024. The delay is attributed to legislative modifications implemented by the Colorado Legislature aimed at accommodating property tax relief measures.

In adherence to the newly amended legislative guidelines, the certification of Park County Tax Warrants will now be postponed until January 24, 2024. This alteration in the deadline calendar extends the timeline for Tax Warrant Certification, affecting the subsequent delivery of Tax statements to property owners.

Upon the completion of the Tax Roll process, property owners can expect to receive their Tax statements, typically delivered by mail within approximately two weeks.

The legislative adjustments were initiated to grant taxing authorities ample time to certify their mill levies and provide County Assessors with an extended duration to gather essential data, ensuring accuracy and compliance in the tax assessment process.

Importantly, while the deadline calendar has been modified, it does not impact the existing First-half payment due date for property taxes, which remains unchanged on February 29 (this Leap Year). The Second-half payment deadline is scheduled for June 15. Property owners opting for a single payment should note that the Full Payment is due by April 30.

The decision by the Colorado Legislature not to extend the payment deadline was made in consideration of ensuring the continued operation of crucial public entities such as Fire Departments, School Districts, Ambulance Districts, Health Districts, and similar institutions by providing them with necessary revenue.

Additionally, property owners are encouraged to streamline the process by signing up for E-notices at: https://treasurer.parkco.us/treasurer/web/ a convenient option that not only saves time but also minimizes postage and paper usage. The first step is to have your most recent tax notice available (2022 Tax Roll payable in 2023), because it contains the KEY required to set it up.  On the upper right-hand side of your statement under Special Messages is the “Email Verification Key”.
