GIS/Mapping
Mission Statement
Establish and maintain a foundation of accurate geographic information to support decision-making and data visualization through maps, which enables better services for Park County citizens.
GIS - Beyond Mapping
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) goes far beyond traditional mapping. Park County utilizes Esri’s ArcGIS platform to enhance collaboration and analysis, and to support data driven decisions, operational efficiency, and transparency across all departments. The following five functions outline the ArcGIS support domain:
1. Data Management Platform
- ArcGIS connects data to location organizing and maintaining parcels, infrastructure, environmental data, and assets within a unified spatial database. This ensures departments work from a single source of truth.
2. Analytical & Decision Support Tool
- ArcGIS reveals spatial patterns that spreadsheets cannot. It supports emergency response planning, infrastructure prioritization, and growth forecasting through advanced analysis and visualization.
3. Integration Layer
- ArcGIS integrates with several county systems, such as our permitting software, 911 location software, etc. – Bridging data across the Building, Assessor, Public Works, and Emergency Management departments, and more. This creates a connected and intelligent data environment.
4. Citizen Engagement Tool
- ArcGIS powers public transparency tools such as parcel/zoning viewers, road maintenance maps, and fire/emergency district maps that help residents access county data easily and reliably.
5. Core IT Infrastructure
- As part of the county’s digital modernization initiative, ArcGIS now functions as critical infrastructure providing APIs, spatial services, and automation workflows that connect systems and improve service delivery.
Key Department Integrations
- Public Works: Maintains road data, including expected grading and snowplow maintenance.
- Emergency Management: Maintains address/location data for 911/Dispatch and provides mapping tools.
- Assessor: Maintains tax parcels and associated data.
- Building: Addresses new properties and corrects existing addresses to abide by Park County Land Use Regulations.
- Environmental Health: Sources and maintains watershed, wetland, wildlife, and public land data.
